 For more than a century, Illinois has been home to a blossoming wine culture, yet wine making in the state has not received the attention it deserves. This presentation will explore the history of Illinois wine production, Illinois wineries, the most common grapes in Illinois, and optimal food and wine pairings. The fascinating science of wine also is discussed, including the particulars of Illinois soil and climate and their effect on the industry. Clara Orban is professor of French and Italian at DePaul University and is a certified sommelier. Please note, no wine will be served at this event. This program is in celebration of Illinois' Bicentennial. (Outreach Services Program)
